Nothing Else Matters

Nothing Else Matters

Sermon Title: Nothing Else Matters

Scripture Reading:
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Matthew chapter six, verse thirty-three

In the Gospel, Jesus speaks to people who are anxious. They worry about food, clothing, tomorrow, and survival. These are real needs. Yet Jesus lifts their eyes higher and says, “Do not worry.” Not because life is easy, but because God is faithful.

Then He gives one of the most powerful statements ever spoken:

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.”

Not second.
Not after everything else is settled.
First.

Jesus is teaching us a truth that changes everything: when God comes first, everything else finds its proper place. When Christ is central, nothing else can rule us. Fear loses its grip. Money loses its power. Status, comfort, and approval lose their control.

Nothing else matters compared to Him.

In another Gospel moment, Jesus meets a rich young ruler. The man keeps the commandments. He lives well. He is respected. Yet something is missing. Jesus looks at him with love and says, “One thing you lack.”

One thing.

He had many achievements. Many possessions. Many good qualities. But without Jesus at the centre, it was still not enough. The man walked away sad because his possessions mattered more than Christ.

Jesus does not say wealth is evil. He reveals that anything placed above Him becomes an idol. Even good things can become dangerous when they take first place.

Peter once said to Jesus, “We have left everything to follow You.”
And Jesus replied that no one who leaves houses, family, or lands for His sake will fail to receive more in this life and eternal life in the age to come.

Following Christ always feels like loss at first. But it is the doorway to true life.

Mary understood this when she sat at Jesus’ feet while Martha was busy with many tasks. Martha was doing good things. But Jesus said, “Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Time with Jesus.
Presence with Jesus.
Devotion to Jesus.

Nothing else matters more than that.

We live in a world that tells us to chase everything. Success. Security. Image. Control. But Jesus says, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?”

You can gain everything and still lose what matters most.

Christ did not come merely to improve our lives. He came to become our life.

When Jesus is first:

Peace replaces anxiety.
Purpose replaces confusion.
Hope replaces fear.
Eternity replaces emptiness.

He is not one priority among many.
He is the foundation of all priorities.

The cross proves this. Jesus gave everything for us. He held nothing back. He did not say, “You matter second.” He said, “You are worth My life.”

How can we respond with anything less than wholehearted devotion?

Today, Christ asks each of us the same question He asked long ago:

Who comes first in your life?

Is it comfort?
Is it control?
Is it money?
Is it fear?
Is it people’s approval?

Or is it Jesus?

Nothing else matters compared to Him.
Nothing else saves.
Nothing else gives life.
Nothing else endures.

He is the Way.
He is the Truth.
He is the Life.

Put Him first.
Trust Him fully.
Follow Him completely.

Because when Christ is first, everything else falls into place.
